Three-in-one charging stations capable of wirelessly charging iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods have been popular for years, although most of them feature relatively simple and functional designs. Accessories brand Journey is looking to bring more design flair to the category with its new NOVA 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station, which will start shipping next Monday, October 28.
The NOVA Charging Station is available in wood grain and bright gray colors, I have been testing the wood grain model for a few days to see how it looks and performs.
Overall, it has a compact footprint and a vertically oriented design, rather than the "tree" design used on some competing 3-in-1 chargers. The entire body is made of plastic, but the faux woodgrain front helps it fit in with your decor. A pair of anti-slip strips on the bottom of the charger help keep it in place and protect your surface from damage.
Weighing just over 400 grams (0.9 lbs), the NOVA is heavy enough to be stable when mounted on your iPhone, yet it's still portable enough so it can be easily transported. It's about 15cm tall (although a connected iPhone will add a few centimeters to the total height) and has a footprint of about 8cm x 9cm.
NOVA has a raised, sloping surface on top that hides the Qi2 charging pad, allowing iPhones to magnetically attach and charge at up to 15 watts, depending on your iPhone model. The MagSafe-compatible Qi2 standard has only recently become widely available, although Apple has already introduced it on the latest iPhone 16 modelsThere’s new 25-watt MagSafe charging, but Qi2 should still be enough for most users.
The phone charging surface is plain plastic, with no obvious pads or graphics to indicate where to place the device. Even without these features, the magnetic alignment makes it easy to find the correct position, so it provides a very clean look when there's no phone on the charger.
The rear of the charging station includes a flip-up Apple Watch charging tray that provides fast charging for supported Apple Watch models. The flip feature allows you to hide the puck when not in use and protect it when you choose to toss the charging station in your bag for travel.
The rear-mounted Apple Watch disc design means your watch won't be visible when charging on a bedside table, coffee table or table, but this may be the case if you're also charging your phone in a horizontal standby or vertical orientation Situation This is a better option for viewing time and other information.
Finally, there's a hollow opening on the front of the charging station that can accommodate a compatible AirPods charging case. The AirPods charging dock has a non-slip pad to help keep the AirPods in place, but it does not include magnets to help align the AirPods charging case with the feature. The position seemed pretty forgiving to me, though, and kept my AirPods Pro charging without any issues.
With touch-activated light inside this opening can help you find your AirPods charging point in the dark or even just provide a little light in a dark room for any other needs.
NOVA charging station comes with 1.5 mUSB-C A USB-C cable powers the device, but you must provide your own power adapter. I always like a power adapter included in the box, especially with pricier accessories, so this is a drawback. If you prefer to power it via a multi-port charger, a flat charger for stuffing behind furniture, or other options, allowing you to provide your own adapter does provide more flexibility, so be aware of the potential additional cost. You'll need at least a 30-watt charger to charge at full speed.
Journey also includes an adhesive magnetic ring and alignment guide in the box, allowing you to add magnetic functionality to older devices iPhone and other smartphone models that support wireless charging but not MagSafe/Qi2.
The NOVA 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station normally sells for $139.99, but it’s currently down to $112.00 with a 20% pre-order discount. Many other 3-in-1 chargers from reputable brands with MagSafe/Qi2 and Made for Apple Watch certifications cost between $120 and $150, so this price is in the same ballpark. Keep in mind that you do have to supply your own power adapter, but the current pre-order discount is enough to keep the price competitive, even with the potential additional costs.
